Fine Line Tattoo

What is it?

Fine line tattooing consists of distinct straight or curved thin lines, without gradations in shade or colour to represent 2D or 3D objects, emphasizing form and outline over colour, shading, and texture. These tattoos can have incredible levels of detail built in, without being 'loud' about it.

Do Fine Line Tattoos fade?

As with all tattoos, some fading will occur with the ageing of the tattoo. Depending on the placement, some re-touching might be needed. Your first touch up is complimentary if booked within the first 6 weeks.

Given that fine line tattoos may fade faster than thicker ones due to less densely packed ink, periodic touch-ups are necessary to keep their appearance intact. Regular touch-ups ensure fine line tattoos remain sharp and well-defined as they age.

Best Practices for Aftercare
Ensuring the longevity of your fine line tattoo requires diligent aftercare. This involves keeping the tattooed area moisturized to prevent the tattoo from cracking, drying out, or the ink from bleeding. Utilizing products specifically formulated to preserve tattoo ink, such as tattoo balms, can aid in aftercare by providing tailored protection against fading for fine line tattoos.

Sun Protection and Lifestyle Considerations

Extended exposure to the sun can degrade fine line tattoos by damaging the ink pigments, resulting in a lighter and less vibrant tattoo. Hence, applying sunscreen to a fully healed tattoo is vital to shield it from UV rays that can cause color fading. Choosing the right sunscreen that suits your lifestyle, whether you’re on-the-go or leading an active lifestyle, is essential.

Does fine line tattooing hurt more?

Fine lines are more painful than bold traditional. Upside is, most fine line tattoos are smaller. And smaller needle sizes are used mostly for the outline at the beginning of the tattoo, when you are fresh and ready for the pain.

Can I use numbing cream?

It’s preferable to not use numbing cream as it can make the tattoo harder to produce, if not impossible altogether - as numbing cream pulls the blood supply away from the area, making it harder to tattoo effectively, as it becomes a spongy surface to tattoo. It may also carry certain risks like allergic reactions, interference with healing and impact on tattoo quality. That being said, use it at your own free will. It is best to apply a 5% Lidocaine 30 minutes prior to your appointment and wrap in saran. Please advise the artist that you have chosen this route.

What does a fine line tattoo feel like?

What we hear most is mosquito bite, small paper cut, cat scratch, electric charge of small amount or a burning sensation. It is definitely not anything like giving blood, because the tattoo needle penetrates into the skin only milli metrically.

Where do tattoos age the best?

  • Inner Forearm. This is proven to be the best area to get a tattoo when it comes to aging.

  • Upper, Outer Chest. This area is normally covered by clothing, which means it is not often exposed to the sun.

  • Back of The Neck.

  • Lower Back.

Age Requirements

  • Parent or Guardian signature required for age 16 and 17 years. Picture ID required - Parent or Guardian must be present at appointment.

People who are NOT good candidates:

  • Pregnant Or Breastfeeding
We do not recommend this because it is not worth taking a risk for your child.

  • Keloid Scars
We do not want to touch keloids because they may have scar tissue built up beneath the skin and do not want to take the risk of cutting that area of the skin.

  • Autoimmune Diseases
Due to your compromised skin health.

  • On Blood Thinner Or Have Bleeding Disorders
Pinpoint bleeding is normal, whereas excessive bleeding is not. If you are on blood thinners this could allow you to bleed too much which will make it more difficult to implant the pigment into the skin. The pigment will be pushed out and the tattoo will be very difficult to achieve.

  • Sunburnt Or Use Sun beds
You must be completely healed from both of these before your appointment because if not then your skin will flake, resulting in loss of pigment.

People who require a Doctors note:

  • Diabetics
May heal slower and may be more at risk for infection.

  • Had chemotherapy within the last year
    Your immune system is compromised.

  • Taking seizure or other medication
Many medications have effects on the body so you will want to ask your doctor to make sure this is safe for you.
